Modernization is different from routine repair. It is a planned upgrade of selected lift components or systems to address condition, obsolescence, performance, appearance or changing building requirements.

Signs that a modernization assessment is useful

Repeated faults, obsolete control equipment, difficult-to-source parts, deteriorated cabin interiors or changing building needs can justify a technical assessment. The condition of the complete system should be reviewed before deciding what to replace.

What can be modernized?

Depending on the equipment, modernization can involve controls, doors, indicators, cabin interiors, lighting, drive equipment, safety-related components or other system elements. The exact scope must be engineered for the installed lift.

Plan downtime and commissioning

Existing-building modernization requires coordination with occupants and facility management. The project plan should account for shutdown periods, testing, commissioning and handover.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to modernize or replace an elevator?

It depends on the condition and age of the existing system, the required scope, parts availability, building constraints and project objectives. A technical assessment can compare the practical options.

Can the cabin interior be modernized without replacing the whole lift?

In some systems, interior finishes and selected cabin components can be upgraded independently. Compatibility and safety requirements should be confirmed first.
