About machine-roomless elevators
A machine-roomless (MRL) elevator places the traction machine and control cabinet inside the shaft, so the building does not need a separate machine room on the roof. The manufacturer rates MRL lifts at about 25% less electricity and 10% less construction area than geared elevators of the same capacity.
